About The Heart

Each day I take one or more verses, beginning at the beginning of the Bible, including the word heart. To that I add a little informal commentary.

Confirming Heart

2 Kings 23:3
The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the LORD -to follow the LORD and keep his commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.

This is Josiah. After his personal discovery of God's Word and God's Law, he pledged his heart and soul to them, and he took the truth to his people.
After that, he went on a chapter-long tear of destruction, burning, killing, and leveling everything to do with pagan worship. That there was so much shows how horribly Judah had turned to false gods. There was prostitution in the Temple. Incense was burned to every imaginable entity. There were mediums and spiritists. I like to picture Josiah in his righteous anger, sword in one hand, torch in the other, as he rode through Judah, looking for demonic worship.
God, let me follow you with all my heart, so that I am always ready to destroy the false gods in my life, in any way that I can.
